oh holy fuck

After the paperwork screw-up that denied me my graduation last year and is forcing me to sit through yet another stupid class which I'll never use, I didn't think things could get worse. I suppose this just goes to show how wrong even I can be some times.

My professor died. The professor of the one class I need to graduate. I just got the email this morning, and it really does feel as though someone pissed in my Cheerios. I hate Cheerios, piss or no piss.

I just got off the phone with my advisor. It took a while for me to explain how I was able to get his home number, but after he calmed down, we had a discussion on what my professor's passing will do to the class and my graduation. It seems that the prof didn't keep very tidy records, so they're not sure what each student's grades were. Because of that, the college is wanting to give everyone in the class a grade for the semester of "incomplete" and make them retake the course.

This is not an option for me. I encouraged my advisor to see things my way. He said he'll look into it and will get back to me. This does not put me in a good mood. I think I'll wake up Beecher and Jason and see if they want to help me relieve some stress. At a bar. At 10am.

Another year, another...

Another year, another con. I'm doing Ops again this year for MurphyCon, like I have for the past three years. The Security chief at the time I first worked the con put me on door nazi status, but that lasted just as long as it took me to shake down the university president for not having a badge when he tried to look in on one of the panels. I told them I wouldn't be a good choice for door nazi, but did they believe me...? They do now.

I was quietly transferred to Ops, because it was behind closed doors where the president couldn't see me still working, and I staged a coup because the Ops director at the time was an idiot, confiscating his brick and sending him out to door-nazi. He only gave a token protest; I think he was relieved that he wouldn't have to deal with University Facilities any longer. That was the Year of the Great Stench that overwhelmed the A/C in the Dealer's Room. The former Con Ops director spent all morning trying to get Facilities to even acknowledge there was a problem. After I got on the case, with a bit of my ... special persuasion, they sent a guy up who traced the problem to a broken vent fan that forced the A/C in Gaming to shunt into the Dealers' Room system branch. Unfortunately he went into Gaming without taking the proper precautions and was never heard from again.

It took some doing and calling in a few favors, but I eventually found a freelance troubleshooter willing to brave Gaming who fixed the problem. We gave him a free con pass for life, although he probably won't use it until he gets out of the home. I promised him he wouldn't have to go back down into Gaming ever again, but he doesn't want to believe me.

I'll be graduating this year and going on to bigger and better things than MurphyCon. I think Jason has great potential in this position. I must train him well this con.
